4-Fluoromethylphenidate (4F-MPH) is a stimulant with high Characteristics of potency dopamine reuptake inhibitor than the methylphenidate. It is also considered an analytical reference material with a structure that falls under phenethylamine. It is also referred to as 4-FMPH and it is highly related to methylphenidate. It is an increasingly popular alternative to Ritalin, Adderall and other stimulant drugs.

4-Fluoromethylphenidate was studied along with other analogues of the threo-methylphenidate to see if they could be used as an alternative to cocaine. The study found that 4F-MPH exhibited a higher efficacy than methylphenidate. This is a dual-action inhibitor that can block the effects of cocaine and its derivatives. Its binding strength to the neurotransmitter dopamine is based on its activity as a reuptake inhibitor.

It looks a lot like the popular Ritalin but has a lower dose. MPH is commonly used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The disorder’s symptoms are believed to be caused by the suppressed levels of certain neurotransmitters. 4f-mph is used in diagnosis for hyperactivity in children or for ADHD which is classified as childhood disorder. A drug which will not cause physical dependence and which has less or no side effects once taken. MPH acts by blocking the re-uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in the synaptic cleft. This prevents these two monoamines from causing elevated concentrations within the synaptic cleft.

Also, a study conducted at the University of California, Berkley, found that meta- and para-supreme compounds with electron-withdraw substituents were more potent than those with methylphenidate.

The single molecule of this antihypertensive drug (4F-mph) has a special function. It is an amino acid which allows one of the two distinctive 4F-mph products, or monoamine transporters, to transfer a specific amount of monoamine in one direction only. When a child takes this medication he/she must have a good uptake of monoamine transporters in order to experience a positive result. Otherwise the medication has no effect.

Not much is known about the pharmacological and toxicological properties of (±)-threo-4-Fluoromethylphenidate (hydrochloride). 4-FMPH has been reported as being sold as a designer drug to replace some restricted substances. Usage of this compound should be for research and forensic purposes only.
