2-Methoxyamphetamine is an amphetamine a methoxy group in the 2, or ortho, position of the phenyl group. It is a lot more fragile than one or the other para-or meta-methoxyamphetamines at changing serotonin delivery or reuptake in rodent cerebrum tissues. Its potency is lower than para- or meta-methoxyamphetamine, making it ideal for forensic applications. It is also related to compounds like PMA and MMA
2-Methoxyamphetamine is a drug that is used to treat amphetamine dependence. It is significantly weaker in causing the reuptake of monoamine neurotransmitters than similar drugs. It may also act as a β-adrenergic receptor agonist. Compared to other amphetamines, 2-Methoxyamphetamine is the most potent in the amphetamine family. 2-Methoxyamphetamine is a synthetic compound with the methoxy group in the orthoposition.
The chemistry, pharmacology, and hepatic metabolism of the drugs were described in a book by Staack and Maurer. In most countries, the substance is still illegal, but its effects on human health have been studied. Researchers have concluded that this substance acts as a serotonergic receptor agonist and may influence the dopamine system. Also, it is used to treat depression and anxiety.
