2-methyl-MDA which is formerly known as 2-Methyl-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine is considered an entactogen and a psychedelic of the ampetamine group. This compound acts as a selective serotonin releasing agent with values of IC50 at 93nM, 12,000nM, and 1,937nM for serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine efflux. Its potency is considered higher than MDA and 5-methyl-MDA. The IC50 value of 2-Methyl-MDA is much lower than that of MDA, which makes it an ideal choice for research and forensics.
The chemical structure of 2-Methyl-MDA allows it to be used as a substitute for MDA in animal tests. This compound is about ten times more potent than MDA and is highly selective. It is is known to have similar properties to MDA and its effects are similar to those of MDA but it is more selective. The chemistry of these drugs is the same, but they differ in how they act in the brain.
