4-Fluoromethamphetamine (4-FMA) is a stimulant that is highly related to methamphetamine and 4-fluoroamphetamine (4-FA). Not much is known about the pharmacological and toxicological properties of fluro-methoxy-substituted amphetamines. 4-FMA has been reported as being sold as a designer drug to replace some restricted substances.

4-FMA was first detected in Japan in 2006. It was initially sold as a research chemical alongside other known illegal substances such as 2-fluoroamphetamine and 3-fluoroamphetamine. The popularity of 4-FMA increased when 4-FA was made illegal in the Netherlands in 2017, its popularity grew as a substitute for other illegal substances.

 It has been known to produce high levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain. Reports about 4-FMA describe its effects as similar to those of traditional stimulants. It has also been noted that it has a higher percentage of side effects than similar drugs.

Chemistry

4-fluoromethamphetamine is a class of synthetic molecules that has been substituted for amphetamine. It has a phenyl ring and a methyl chain. It is a fluorinated analogue of the methamphetamine.

Pharmacology

4-Fluoromethamphetamine is a substance that mimics the effects of 4-FA. It is believed that its reuptake inhibitor properties can trigger amphetamine-like effects at low doses. This drug has similarities with other commonly used empathogens such as 4-Methylmethcathinone and 4-fluoroamphetamine.

The 4-FMA protein can boost the levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine in the brain by binding to the proteins that are responsible for clearing these monoamines. This process allows the brain to produce these chemicals. 4-FMA is a cyclic phenylhydratase inhibitor that lowers the metabolism of methamphetamine.

It has been reported that 4-FMA is a nootropic that can improve general productivity. Like other substances that produce a similar sensation, 4-FMA can also provide a pleasant “roll-like” effect. However, it’s not yet clear why this drug is so popular.
