Metonitazene is a derivative of etonitazene that has been shown to have a higher potency than morphine when administered through central routes of administration. However, if given orally, it can have a potency ten times greater.
It is similar to other opioid drugs such as heroin and fentanyl, and its effects can be similar to those of these drugs. Some of the side effects of metonitazene include respiratory depression and vomiting. Because of its high dependency potential, it has not been studied as a potential therapeutic agent.
