5-iodo-2-Aminoindane, also known as 5-IAI is a psychoactive compound of p-iodoamphetamine and is unclear, in its physiological impacts, from 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine in rats. 5-iodo-2-aminoindane (5-IAI) is a drug that can release norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. It was developed by a team led by David Nichols at Purdue University. Unlike other aminoindane derivatives, this drug is not toxic to humans. A solitary 40 mg/kg portion of 5-IAI essentially lessens both serotonin up-take and hippocampal serotonin levels in rats.
The chemical compound 5-IAI is also considered a central nervous system stimulant that is commonly used in recreational drugs. Although its effects are similar to those of conventional drugs, it is relatively safe to consume at low recreational doses. The chemical has not been studied in humans, but research suggests that it is not neurotoxic at recreational doses. However, a few animal studies suggest that it can cause mild neurotoxicity at high doses. As with other psychoactive substances, there are potential side effects associated with this drug.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
