Butylone, βk-MBDB, β-keto MBDB, bk-MBDB, β-keto-N-methylbenzodioxolylbutanamine
Butylone is a substance found in the phenethylamine class that can be used as a stimulant and entactogen. It is also an analogue of buphedrone. This drug is produced by the substitution of cathinone with a derivative of MBDB.
Butylone is an analytical material that can be used as a reference for the preparation of various drugs. It can also be found in bath salts. Butylone is a derivative of bk-DMBDB.
In 1967, three scientists from Germany named Zeile, Koeppe, and Ludwig created butylone. Although it was initially an obscure chemical, it eventually became a designer drug in 2005. Butylone shares the same molecular structure as MDMA, which is also known as ecstasy. In 2009, formal studies on this substance were conducted after it was discovered that it can be metabolized in a similar manner to other drugs.
Butylone has a short history of human use. There is currently no evidence supporting its pharmacological properties or its effects on the human body. It is highly advised to avoid using this substance.
As a designer drug, butylone can be found on the streets along with other illicit substances such as ethylone. Due to the lack of methylone on the market, it has been referred to as “Molly.” However, its subjective effects are not completely similar to those of MDMA.
Its subjective effects can include an increase in libido, an accelerated thought process, and an increased appetite. It is also less potent than other drugs such as ethylone and methylone. These substances have more classic stimulant properties.
Chemistry
Butylone, also known as -keto-n-methylbenzodioxolybutanamine, is a synthetic version of the cathinone family of compounds. These are similar to amphetamines in structure. The phenethylamine core is composed of a ring bound to an amino acid located at the NH2 region. However, unlike amphetamines, these compounds are not alpha-methylated. They are also different from other compounds due to the addition of a carbonyl functional group to the equation.
Butylone is a derivative of MDEA, 4-MEC, and ethylone. It also has a methyl substitution at RN, which is similar to those found in other entactogens and stimulants. It also has a pair of oxygen groups in the phenyl ring, which are used to form a methylenedioxy ring. This ring is made up of a group of oxygen groups that are linked through a methylene chain. Butylone is known to share the methylenedioxy ring with other compounds like MDAI, MDMA, and MDA.
Pharmacology
Butylone is a mixed compound that is used to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders by blocking the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. This method allows the drugs to be reused and stimulate the brain. These three chemicals are known to be responsible for various aspects of pleasure and reward.
Butylone has a lower binding affinity to the norepinephrine transporter than methylone. It also has a similar level of selectivity for the serotonin and dopamine receptors. The effects of butylone on the catecholaminergic and serotonin receptors are similar to those of MDMA. It also has a stronger reuptake inhibitor than methylphenidate. Despite these characteristics, butylone still has a relatively robust releasing power.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
