Ethcathinone which is also known as N-Ethylcathinone, RMI 8201A, ethylpropion, ETH-CAT is considered a subbed cathinone that produces amphetamine-like stimulus impacts in rats prepared to separate amphetamine. It has been distinguished as a part of tablets or capsules. Ethcathinone is a drug that’s used as a stimulant. It is a class of chemicals that produces focused and stimulating effects when used. It is structurally related to both the cathinone and methcathinone families.
Though ETH-CAT has similar pharmacological properties to amphetamines, the synthetic drug has a different effect on the body. It affects the brain’s serotonin, causing distinct psychoactive effects. Users report increased energy, empathetic feelings, and openness. The active metabolite of diethylcathinone, ethcathinone, has a methylphenidate-like effect on the CNS and is a moderately potent noradrenaline releasing agent. This substance has also been identified as a component of pills and capsules.
ETH-CAT is known to provide a long-lasting and moderate-to-slightly residual stimulation. Its short active duration can also promote compulsive redosing.
It is also considered as a pseudoepoxyphenone that can be commonly found as an ingredient in “party pills”. It is a fully responsible drug that can be used to treat various conditions.
Chemistry
ETH-CAT is a synthetic alkaloid that is derived from the substituted cathinone class. It has properties similar to amphetamine and its active psychoactive component. The cathinone is a phenethylamine core with a phenyl ring bound to an amino group. It contains the ketone group in the beta position.
To distinguish M-Cat (methcathinone) which is a lower-methylated version of methcathinone. It has an additional ethyl substitution. It can be considered as the analog of ethylamphetamine.
Pharmacology
It was featured in a study by Baumann and Rothman in 2006. The main mode of action of ethcathinone is by suppressing the reuptake of dopamine. It is also a moderately active releaser of norepinephrine.
Since diethylcathinone is an inactive prodrug, it only becomes active after it is further metabolized to ethcahinone. This means that ethcathinone is likely to become N-dealkylated upon consumption. Ethcathinone is not considered a prodrug since it is active in its own right. This is because it is not considered a “drug” under the strictest definitions.
