Ethocybin, CEY-19, 4-phosphoryloxy-DET, 4-PO-DET
Ethocybin is a derivative of the psilocybin and the tryptamine family that can be used as a drug for treating anxiety and depression. Similar to LSD, the effects of ethocybin can be similar to those of a short trip. However, their duration and intensity vary depending on the setting and dosage.
Chemistry
Like metocybin and miprocybin, ethocybin is a prodrug that can be used to convert into a pharmacologically active compound known as ethocin. This chemical can be produced by dephosphorylating the active component of the prodrug. It was first discovered by Albert Hofmann. This chemical was sold under the name CEY-39.
Pharmacology
Like psilocybin, ethocybin is produced by dephosphorylating the active component of the prodrug. It then acts as a partial agonist of the serotonin receptor in the brain. It is believed that the drug is mainly converted to ethocybin in the liver. However, it is also broken down by an enzyme known as monoamine oxidase.
The effects of psilocybin can be diminished by taking ethocybin several times a week. Doing so can lead to a build-up of tolerance, which then dissipates quickly. To minimize the effects, most users keep the dose at a steady five to seven days apart.
Medicine
Since the 1960s, Ethocybin has been used as a treatment for various disorders. In 2010, a study revealed that it can help treat bipolar affective disorder.
It can be absorbed through the lining of the stomach and mouth. Its effects can last for up to 45 minutes. The effects are similar to those of psilocybin.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
