MEAI also known as 5-methoxy-2-aminoindane, 5-MeO-AI, Chaperon is known as a derivative of MMAI, well known as a psychoactive aminoindane that has been identified in recent recreational compounds. The difference between MEAI and MMAI is by the absence of a methyl group.
MEAI is a family of indane molecules that includes the indane family of compounds. It was a recreational drug and a drinking prevention drug. A review paper published in 2017 by David Nutt and his colleagues described the pharmacological and pharmacodynamic properties of MEAI. A year later, a company in the US started selling a drink based on the same drug.
MEAI was developed by Nutt and other scientists during the 2010s as an alcohol replacement drug. It was made available for sale online as “Pace”.
