Ro5-4864, 4′-chlorodiazepam
A derivative of diazepam known as Ro5-4864 is a drug that is used to treat anxiety and other related disorders. Unlike other similar drugs, it does not have the usual effects of a benzodiazepine. It also has anxiogenic and convulsant effect. The drug was eventually renamed to 18kDa after it was discovered to be a potent receptor for the benzodiazepine receptor.
Despite its side effects, Ro5-4864 has been known to be neuroprotective. It has been used in studies on the role of the TSPO protein in the development of neurotoxic effects. In vitro studies and animal models suggest that the drug could potentially be used as an anti-cancer drug and an antidepressant.
