25I-NBOMe, also known as 2C-I-NBOMe, is a novel type of psychedelic substance that can produce stimulating and visually-dominant effects when ingested. This drug is one of the many drugs known as N-Bomb.
The substance, which is derived from the phenethylamine 2C-I, was first synthesized in 2003 by Free University of Berlin’s graduate student, Ralf Heim. It was then studied by David Nichols and his team at Purdue University. The goal of their study was to identify the molecular structures of the 5-HT2A receptor using positron emission tomography.
It is important to note that the compounds of the NBOMe family, such as 25I-NBOMe, should be administered under the tongue or through a combination of these methods. These drugs should ideally be placed into one’s mouth and absorbed for around 15-25 minutes.
Currently, there is a lack of information regarding the pharmacological properties and metabolism of 25I-NBOMe in humans. Before it was sold as a designer drug in 2010, it had no known history of human use. It has been linked to various hospitalizations and deaths. Some reports also suggest that its unpredictable effects can make it difficult to use safely.
Chemistry
2C-I-NBOMe is a derivative of the phenethylamine 2C-I. It is a serotonin-based N-benzyl compound that can be used as a replacement for phenethylamine. It is produced by attaching the methoxy groups CH3O and CH4O to carbons R2, R5, and R4.
It is structurally different from 2C-I. Through a substitution of NH2 with a 2-methoxybenzyl group, 25I-NBOMe is produced. This compound shares the same molecular structure as other NBOMe compounds. The methoxy group CH3O is bound to a benzene ring at R2.
Pharmacology
The drug 25I-NBOMe is a selective and potent partial agonist of the 5-HT2A receptor. However, its role in the development of the psychedelic experience is still unclear.
This compound is considered to be unique in terms of its ability to bind to the 5-HT2a receptor. Although it is not a full agonist, it does have a high potency and selectivity. This makes it an ideal candidate for the development of various psychedelics. However, questions remain about the effects of this drug on the development of the psychedelic experience.
The Ki values of the various targets of this compound were greater than 500. These include the 5-HT1A, D3, H2, and 5-HT1D receptors. It also targets the serotonin reuptake transporter, the 5-HT5A, and the muscarinic M1B.
Recreational Usage
Although the substance known as 25I-NBOMe was first discovered in 2003, it wasn’t until 2010 that it became a common recreational drug. In a typical context, the name of the drug is often shortened to “25I” or “N-Bomb”. In 2014, a survey revealed that the most commonly used substance of the NBOMe series was 25I-NBOMe. In 2013, case reports of individuals experiencing severe intoxication with the drug without analytic confirmation started to emerge.
Although it’s widely believed that 25I-NBOMe is not active, overdoses have been reported in the form of oral administration. The drug can be administered through various routes, such as buccal, intranasal, or sublingual. For instance, 25I-NBOMe can be applied to a sheet of blotter paper, which allows the drug to pass through the oral cavity. There have also been reports of individuals smoking the drug in powdered form.
Due to its low cost and potency, 25I-NBOMe is commonly mistaken as a type of LSD blotter. It can be obtained in bulk from various vendors. These individuals would then sell the bulk quantities to their customers for a huge profit.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
