5-(2-Aminopropyl)indole, 5-API, 5-IT, PAL-571
5-(2-Aminopropyl)indole is a derivative of phenethylamine that can cause an unusual amount of empathy. It was first prepared by Albert Hofmann in 1962. It was then sold as recreational drugs by online retailers in 2011.
5-IT is a derivative of the tryptamine drug αMT. However, it is not a tryptamine, as the indole ring is substituted for it. This makes it more similar to a phenethylamine derivative known as 5-APB. When used as a drug, 5-IT reportedly stimulates the central nervous system and is perceived to be stimulating.
5-IT is a triple-monoamine releasing agent that has EC50 values of 12.9, 13.3, and 104.8 nM for dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. It is also used as a MAO-A inhibitor.
