5-Meo-DALT, N,N-Diallyl-5-Methoxytryptamine
5-MeO-DALT, is a type of psychedelic substance that can cause short-term effects when used. It is structurally related to other tryptamines such as 5-MeO-DiPT. Although it can cause distinct effects, it is not widely known for its use.
Alexander Shulgin synthesized 5-MeO-DALT in May 2004. After sending the first material about the synthesis to a researcher, the chemical was posted online in August 2004. The effects and synthesis of this substance were officially published by Erowid in August 2004. Reports about the discovery of 5-MeO-DALT started to appear in 2007.
According to some reports, the effects of 5-MeO-DALT are mainly physical. It does not have the same perceptual depth or visual distortions as other psychedelics. Its headspace is also said to be “shallow,” which is appropriate for sexual contexts due to its libidinous and stimulating effects.
Reports also stated that 5-MeO-DALT can cause cardiovascular effects, such as an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. This has raised questions about the possible toxic effects of this substance.
Due to the lack of data regarding the effects of 5-MeO-DALT on human metabolism and its pharmacological properties, it is not considered safe to use it. It is also advised to use harm reduction techniques to minimize its effects.
Chemistry
N,N-Diallyl-5-Methoxytryptamine is a derivative of the compounds 5-MeO-DPT and DALT. It is also related to the production of various other chemicals.
5-MeO-DALT is a derivative of DALT and 5-MeO-DiPT. It has an indole ring of tryptamine and two allyl groups bound to it. This is a structural analogue of DALT and DPT. It is an off-white powder.
Pharmacology
5-MeO-DALT binds to various 5-HT1A, 5-HT1D, and 5-HT2A receptors. It also acts as a monoamine reuptake inhibitor by blocking the effects of SERT and DAT.
5-MeO-DALT is a partial agonist of 5-HT2A receptors. It is believed that the effects of this drug on these receptors are triggered by its interactions. However, the exact mechanism by which these interactions result in a psychedelic experience is still unclear.
5-MeO-DALT has also been frequently used as an intermediate in preparing radiolabeled diethyltryptamine.
