NBOMe mescaline, mescaline NBOMe, 345 NBOMe
Mescaline-NBOme is a synthetic phenethylamine that can be used as a partial agonist of the serotonin receptors. It was originally reported as being around 50 nM Ki. However, modern methods have shown that it can be produced at concentrations of around 140 nM and 640 nM at 5-HT2C and 5-HT2.
The two compounds, NBOMe-mescaline and NBOMe-escaline, were first reported in 1999 after research at Free University Berlin revealed their activity as partial agonists of the 5-HT2A receptors. In 2008, it was revealed that individuals had been self-administered NBOMe-mescaline, which was a psychedelic drug. It was eventually made available to the market in 2010.
Chemistry
The solubility of the hydrochloride salt in PBS is approximately 5%. In ethanol, DMF, and DMSO, it is around 10%.
Mescaline and 2-methylbenzaldehyde can be used to produce NBOMe-memo-mescaline, which can be done by reductive alkylation. This process can be performed stepwise, such as making the imine, reducing it with sodium borohydride or directly reacting it with sodium triacetoxy borohydride. An alternative method is also available, which eliminates the need for mescaline as an illicit precursor. This process involves a one-pot reaction of 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenacetonitrile and lithium aluminum hydrride.
