5-(2-Aminopropyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene, also known as IAP, Indanylaminopropane, 5-APDI is an indane with an amphetamine-like aminopropane class. 5-APDI is a psychedelic drug of the amphetamine class that can be commonly found as an entactogen and a psychoactive substance. It was first identified as a designer drug in 2003. Its IC50 value is 82 nM and it is used primarily for forensic purposes.
It hinders the uptake of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine by rough synaptosomes (IC50 = 82, 1,847, and 849 nM, respectively). In discrimination analysis utilizing rodents, 5-APDI completely fill in for the entactogen N-methyl-1,3-dioxolyl-N-methylbutanamine however doesn’t fill in for amphetamine.
In a recent study, people who had used this chemical reported feeling more relaxed and more alert than those who had taken MDA or cocaine. The drug is also less likely to cause addiction than other psychedelics. It is a mild hallucinogen that has been compared to MDMA. It is not considered dangerous for humans, but it is best avoided unless medically necessary.
