5-MAPB, 5-
5-MAPB is a synthetic entactogen of the class of chemicals known as benzofuran. It can produce various euphoric and hallucinogenic effects, such as 5-APB, 5-EAPB, and 6-APB. 5-MAPB is also similar to MDMA in that it is N-methylated.
It can also act as a quasi-substitute for MDMA, which has led to its rise in popularity as a designer drug. 5-MAPB was first introduced to the market in 2010. It can be easily accessed by the users of online vendors.
Commonly referred to as 5-MAPB, this substance is also known as the succinate and the hydrochloride salt. The former is 36% more powerful than the latter.
Chemistry
5-MAPB is a derivative of phenethylamine and benzofuran. It is composed of a furan ring and an N-methylated ethylamine chain. It can also be considered a derivative of methamphetamine due to the analagous nature of the N-methylated ethylamine chain.
Amphetamines contain a phenethylamine core that is bound to an amino acid group through an ethyl chain. This core is characterized by an oxygen atom placed at the 5 position, which tends to stimulate the effects of the drug. The furan ring also has an effect that’s more psychedelic.
Pharmacology
5-MAPB is an inhibitor of the serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine neurotransmitters. It can also be used as an agonist of the 5-HT2B and 5-HT2A receptors. It has additionally been theorized that it can be used as a releasing agent for certain other neurotransmitters.
In order to boost the levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain, 5-MAPB can be used by binding to certain receptors. These molecules can then block the activity of the proteins that are responsible for removing monoamines from the neurotransmitters. This allows the accumulation of these chemicals in various parts of the brain, which can stimulate and improve the mood.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
