Tryptamines like 5-MeO-aMT are potent psychedelic substances that can be used in combination with other drugs. It can be soluble in ethanol.
The effects of tryptamine are similar to those of amphetamines due to its structurally related properties. According to Alexander Shulgin, the compounds that are alpha-methylated tryptamines are also known to be similar to phenethylamines. Mechanisms of action related to this include the inhibition of the monoamine reuptake.
5-methoxyamethyltryptamine (5-MeO AMT) is a potent analogue of 5-methoxydiptamine. It can stimulate the release of monoamines by inhibiting the reuptake of these drugs. It also stimulates the release of certain chemicals like dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine from the rat brain’s synaptosomes.
5-MeO-AMT is commonly sold in 4 mg tablets under the street name Alpha-O. It is believed that 5-MeO-AMT was previously sold as LSD in liquid, sugar cubes, or blotter form. This is because the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has been finding it on various types of blotter and sugar cubes, such as LSD.
5-MeO-AMT is a derivative of 5-methoxy-alpha-methyltryptamine. It is also commonly referred to as alpha-O and alpha-DMS. The former is derived from the drug’s chemical name, alpha,O-dimethylserotonin.
5-MeO-AMT is abused for its hallucinogenic effects. It is one of a class of compounds known as tryptamines, and other such as 5-methoxy-N, 5-methoxy-Diisopropyltryptamine, and psilocybin are also known to produce similar effects.
The most common way to administer 5-MeO-AMT is through oral administration. However, some users report experiencing problems such as smoking or snorting the substance. Due to its powerful effects and quick onset, intramuscular and intravenous routes are rarely used outside of research settings.
The toxicological and physiological properties of this compound has not been analyzed. Usage of this Chemical should be for research and forensic purposes only.
